Equinox Fun

Vernal Equinox

Today is the vernal equinox. It is a day of equal daylight and nighttime. It is also a great day for science experiments. Today I was able to share the trick where an egg stands tall on its own. This is one of only two days a year that you can do this. I bought a whole carton of eggs and took them to school. I shared them with my teaching peers. Many children experienced on of the wonders that science has to behold. Here's  picture of the said egg:

Technology

We had a meeting about technology today. I was so geeked! I absolutely LOVE using technology in the classroom, even when it doesn't work out the way it's supposed to. I was asked to present on ClassDojo (see the Prezi at the bottom of my blog homepage). Other teachers that presented brought ideas back from MACUL. It was great!

One idea was Zoomit. My cooperating teacher and I downloaded it and played with it before the presentation which was held in our room. It is amazing and a great FREE tool. We are piloting Keyboarding for Kids in our 2nd grade classroom. It is a program that needs some instruction from a teacher, but the students are so excited to be learning how to type! They are doing a fantastic job too. Scholastic teacher has some simple grade-level specific warm-ups for free on their website. They are called Daily Starters. We also had a presenter that took a few sessions on Google Docs. We use Google Docs on our classroom blog to use with our Landforms WebQuest. Google Docs is an amazing free tool! All you need is a Google log in and you're golden!

Well, that's it for today. Thanks for sharing my day with me. I hope I was able to help some of you out there find some free resources and ideas!
